What to wear for engagement photos

Wedding Advice

Like I promised, here is part 2 in the engagement series. You can see part 1 here.

Before we begin with the “what to wear”..we should start with fulfilling your session expectations.

A. What to expect during an engagement session

To be honest, this session is not just for taking pretty pictures, for save-the-date cards, or for checking off the wedding to-do list. The engagement session is for you and your fiancé to spend a good hour to just ‘be’ together. No cell phones are allowed, no facebook, no pinterest…just you. This is a time in your life to document how much you love each other and the reason you’re here to begin with; love on her, kiss each other, cuddle together, giggle out loud! Enjoy the moment and relax into each other, because life gets busier, faster, and more stressful as time goes on.

B. What to WEAR to an engagement session

Ok, here it goes. You can find endless amounts of searches on what to wear and don’t let it overwhelm you. Like I said above, this session is about you spending time together and capturing your love story. What you wear does matter. But only in the sense that we want your personalities to show, not only in your expressions and interactions, but in your style!

We suggest two outfits. Some choose a casual and a fancier set, some choose to wear a casual outfit and then team gear, some want to spice it up and get a little funky. My advice is choose something that reflects you!

Here are 5 simple tips for what to wear at your session..and 1 other random tip

 1. Be You! Don’t go out and shop at Express if you’re a JCrew kind of couple. Be comfortable and wear what you love!

2. Wear COLOR!! Stay away from solid blacks and whites
3. Like white or black? Find clothing you love with texture. Lace, plaid, knit…texture looks great in photos!
4. Accessories, Accessories, Accessories!
Sweaters, scarfs, hats, jewelry, funky shoes, chalkboards, blankets, your favorite team gear, umbrellas, etc..
Always remember, there is nothing sexier than a man in a bow tie..

5. Wear a clean ring :)

6. Bring your dog! (if you have one)..ok this has nothing to do with what to wear, but whatever.

We LOVE dogs, ok no, we are OBSESSED with dogs. If you are too, then bring them along!

My  final note  has nothing to do with what to wear, but its still helpful!

C. Location

Work with your photographer to find the best location that reflects you as a couple.  Are you nature lovers? Let’s shoot in the woods. Do you love alleyways, and architecture?  Lets find a downtown area. What about your home?  Let’s shoot in your house and your backyard!  Do you know anyone who owns an awesome piece of property? Grandparent’s farm or a family members estate? Where did you get engaged? Did you meet playing a sport, let’s meet at a tennis court! Remember thsese photos are about you and no one else. These are YOUR engagement photos!!!! Make them your own!

With Love,
